In the dim candle lit Sacred Heart Chapel seven Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College students joined Campus Minister, Carolyn Sur, SSND, at 8 p.m. on Jan. 19. Calling the service Vigil for Life, the seven students began the service with a small prayer for the victims and the victim's families that are suffering in the Haiti disaster by saying a few small, kind words for them.

Then as the students switched gears, the service focused on blessing the trip that three SMWC students who would go on that weekend to participate in the March for Life in Washington D.C.

Freshmen Cathleen Flynn and Juliette Faraone along with international student Gemma Duffy traveled to participate in the March for Life from Jan. 21 until Jan. 22. Sur spoke from her heart for the three students who attended the March for Life at the service.

"We gather in support to send off three of our Woodsies who will be joining the march on Washington for those who respect those among the most vulnerable, undeveloped life in the womb," said Sur.

The three students toured the capitol and the monuments and memorials on their first day there. On Jan. 22 Flynn, Faraone, and Duffy attended the mass at the Basilica and then marched onto the capitol with the other 20,000 plus people.

In an interview with each of the three students, they spoke about how appreciative they where to see so many people come together for the same cause.

Faraone, who has been attending the March for Life for the last three years, said that "I feel very grateful to be able to participate in something this big and in something I believe in."

Flynn tells how the experience at the march was "prayerful and awesome to see so many people gathered for one cause."

Duffy, who made her first trip to the capitol, said she was "so amazed that people from all over the world come to support the same cause."
