Sodexo, Inc. is an international company that provides food services and facilities management in a variety of environments. Some of these include hospitals, colleges and universities, and military bases. According to Sodexo's website, they "set out each morning to treat every person we encounter with the highest level of respect and service."
In 2007, Sodexo was the food service provider for at least 900 colleges across the United States. Students at some of those colleges demanded more sustainably produced food - such as organics and locally grown - and Sodexo met the demand.
In the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Sodexo has about 6,000 clients that they serve. They serve approximately 9.3 million meals every day, and they employ about 120,000 people in North America. Sodexo, Inc. funds the Sodexo Foundation, an independent charitable organization that was founded in 1999. Since being founded, the organization has made more than $9.2 million in grants that go to fight hunger in America.
Sodexo, Inc. has many distinguished honors and awards to show their hard work in the world. They were ranked as the number one company in 2007 for Global Outsourcing and number 12 in the Top Companies for Diversity. As of January 2009, Sodexo, Inc. is considered an international "Superbrand", up with companies such as IBM.
The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College unit of Sodexo is managed by Russ Engelmann. He has been with Sodexo, Inc. for 18 years and has moved around to a few places during that time. He has been at SMWC for 2 years now.
Just a short 2 and a half weeks ago, Sodexo at SMWC welcomed a new chef. Mike Handbury has 25 years experience as a chef in places such as Chicago and Michigan. He owned his own business and has worked in restaurants as well.
