On Jan. 30, the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team faced off against the Rochester College Warriors. This game makes the 21st game of the season for the Pomeroys.

SMWC once again played with only 5 players. Rochester was equipped with 14 players, including plenty of subs. Both teams came to play, obviously seen in their fast-paced action on both offense and defense. The Warriors scored first and took advantage of that during the whole game. The Pomeroys were taking plenty of shots, but the trouble was they weren't finding the hoop.

The Pomeroys closed the lead a few times, but could never fully overcome it in the first half. With 2:12 left in the half, SMWC came within 2 points of a tie with a score of 24-26. With Rochester College in foul trouble, the Pomeroys found success at the free throw line. Before the end of the half, the Warriors pulled away again and ended the first half with a score of 26-33.

SMWC came out strong in the second half and kept up the pace for most of the game. The Pomeroys kept closing the gap with 7:30 left in the game, a score of 51-55. With 5 minutes left in the game, the Warriors held the Pomeroys scoreless while scoring 8 points of their own. With SMWC in foul trouble, Rochester took advantage of the free throws. The game ended with a score of 59-73, with the Pomeroys at the losing end.

The SMWC Pomeroys went 14 for 17 at the free throw line. Top scorers for the game were senior Kendra Stumler with 20 points and freshman Jacci Martin with 14 points. Freshman Chelsey Barron contributed 13 rebounds, while Stumler and freshman Adrienne Blickenstaff both added 6 rebounds.

With only 4 games left, the Pomeroys will travel to Asbury College on Feb. 7 and will return home on Feb. 13 to play Taylor University-Ft. Wayne at 7 p.m.
