Western team shines in event on home turf

On Nov. 15, the SMWC Western team held another competition on their home turf. Once again, the team found success in each division with multiple riders placing in each.

In the first show of the day, sophomore Allison Kralovansky placed 2nd and junior Brittany Gambill came in 3rd in the Reining division. In the Open division Gambill placed 4th right in front of Kralovansky in 5th. Kralovansky was also the Reserve High Point Rider. The Advanced division found sophomore Morgyn Purdy in 1st, senior Samantha Dumm in 3rd, and senior Casey Craig in 4th. In the Novice division, SMWC riders took the top 4 rankings: senior Noelle Nolton in 1st, senior Brittany Eyer and sophomore Chelsea Sears in 2nd, freshman Valorie Vaal in 3rd, and senior Dorthea Eads in 4th. The Intermediate II division found freshmen Abby Thackery and Katie Sidell in 1st and freshmen Jordyn Perrot and Whitney Mahloch in 2nd. Freshman Bethany Erli also placed 4th in Intermediate II. Sophomore Hope Kaawha placed 2nd in the Walk/Trot division, while freshman Ashlee Hershman placed 4th and freshman Meagan Ryan placed 6th.

The second show of the day held more of the same winning ways for the SMWC team. In the Reining division, Kralovansky placed 3rd and Gambill in 4th. The Open division found Gambill in 2nd place. In the Adavanced division Purdy placed 1st, Craig placed 5th, and Dumm placed 6th. Vaal placed 1st in the Novice division, with sophomore Cortni Bigley in 2nd, sophomore Morgan McMillian, Nolton in 5th, and Eads in 6th. In the Intermediate II division, Mahloch placed 1st, Perrott in 2nd, Thackery and Sidell in 3rd, and Erli in 5th. Ending the day in the Walk/Trot division, Kaawha got 1st with Ryan and Hershman in 3rd place.

The Western team will take a short break and compete again on Jan. 31 at SMWC. This will be their final competition before their Regionals on Feb. 21.
